Yesterday (10/8) at the Dixie Classic Fair in Winston-Salem I was taking a lunch break in the shade at the north end of the fairgrounds and watched Monarchs trickle past at about 3 per minute, traveling at about 15 ft off the ground and heading straight south along the east side of a large building. I later followed a couple of them and after they traveled past a set of food booths, they stopped at a planting of asters and mums before continuing south - no deep fried Snickers bars for them.
Today I had to find them by going to the aster/mum bed and working my way north, finding they were entering the fairgrounds about 100 yards further east, probably due to the more westerly wind today.
