Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/11/2009

Number: 1

My husband and I were on Asseateague Island, VA on Saturday from about 9:30 am -3:30 pm. We observed about 50 plus monarch butterflys an hour. They were so pretty, many different sizes, then after a short time of watching, we noticed dragon flys with them also. The butterflys traveled in groups of 2-6 it seemed, and 2-3 dragonflys with them. They were traveling from the north end of the beach to the south end of the beach on Asseateague Island. We were fishing on the point of land called "the hook". It was amazing. Hope this helps. I always heard they migrated but never, ever saw this. I hope we can see it next year. My observation time: I was watching for 6 hours.
