Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/13/2009

Number: 1

We just returned from vacation and were pleased to see a young(?) male hummingbird today. We have been away since 9/30 when we last saw hummers at our feeders. We are glad to see they are still passing through our yard. We will keep the feeders up for a while longer, maybe through the end of October or longer if we still have visitors.

We think today's hummingbird was a young male from the unusual markings on his neck. It is cold here (58F) this morning at 10:30. He sat at one feeder from 10:24am to 10:30am until an upset(?) Robin chased him away. I have never seen a Robin interact with a hummingbird before. Normally they coexist without any conflict. The hummingbird must have continued his migration as we did not see him again for the rest of the day.
