I have seen many monarch caterpillars in the last month on Asclepia oenotheroides around my area, and in A. curassavica in the "butterfly stations" at Estanzuela. [A park on the outskirts of Mntry.]
Last two weeks I had seen there tons of caterpillars in all instars, and this last weekend I found the Asclepias all eaten, and many chrysalis and pupating caterpillars at the wooden roof of the booth at the park entrance. I found chrysalis on the signs, at the wall, and I am sending a photo of one that pupated on the wall in the rock that has a fish fossil.
I suppose they are the premigrating generation.
I collected some from the roadsides near my house and they are emerging already. It is nice.
The migratory monarchs have not yet arrived.
