To recap Balcones Canyonlands NWR thus far: We have had a few days when we had one or a few Monarchs hanging around locally. Thus far (and the day is yet young), we have seen NO evidence of a Monarch movement through our little corner of the eastern Edwards Plateau. Not one flight day. For our NWR Week celebration last Saturday (10/10), we had zero Monarchs. We have tagged a total of one Monarch thus far. This truly is a most unusual year. Even in one previous season when the migration corridor shifted to the west, we at least had a few days with a few dozen Monarchs.
Now, all my complaining will hopefully be acknowledged by the Monarchs:
They have another chance this afternoon as a strong cool front comes through in sunny skies. The wind shift is due to arrive any hour now.
