I was surprised to find that a monarch butterfly emerged from its chrysalis so late in the season. Our night temperatures have been dropping into the 40s. This monarch was found on a stem of a dead potted plant. It was not near milkweed. I couldn't stay to see if it actually matured to flight. But it appeared to be healthy.
