Tulips PLANTED

Date: 10/15/2009

Number: 1

45 bulbs were planted in our gardens. The majority of bulbs were planted in the garden beds 15 feet away from the school building on the west-facing side of the school property. The second garden only contains 8 bulbs and was planted 50 feet from the school building north of the main garden. It is still on the west facing side of the school but is surrounded by more trees. Our students are conducting an experiment to see if the shade from these trees will be enough to delay their blooming time compared to the main garden. In addition to covering our bulbs with chicken wire we also used cayenne pepper and moth balls on the surface to detract squirrels (we weren't sure if it was just an old wives tale or not....).

We planted orange emperor bulbs 7" into the ground. I know, I know... they aren't red but Botanus didn't have any more of the red variety. They assured me that they are still emperor bulbs and genetically identical to the red (minus the colour part).
