My husband and I were quite shocked while visiting the Beaverdam Reservoir as we were not able to locate ONE monarch! That was half the reason we went there. In fact there were hardly ANY butterflies to be found, highly unusual for early October. I attribute their absence mainly to the fact that the wildflowers growing under the power lines were mowed recently, much to my dismay. There were still some blooming along the edges of the gravel road, but apparently they weren't enough to attract any monarchs...
