Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/20/2009

Number: 1

I am still seeing one female hummer that has been here since the last of September. I am worried about her because something is wrong with her tongue. I had first thought a piece of her beak was broken off, but after getting a good look....I saw that her beak is fine. When she first appeared at my home, I noticed she was having a little difficulty feeding at the feeders, but after several attempts she would managed to get her tongue and beak in the hole. Just here recently she is having alot of difficulty and going from feeder to feeder. After not managing to get any nectar, she then goes to our goldfish pond or water foutain. Her tongue just dangles like piece of thread. She evidently cannot pull it back into her mouth. I am afraid she is going to try to weather it out here. We have made some of the feeder-holes bigger and I have also placed a saucer feeder without the top on it for her.
I hope she will be able to get nectar tomorrow. I am very worried about her. If anyone knows anything I might could do, please e-mail me. This is the second hummer I have had this season with beak/tongue problems.
