Signs of Fall

Date: 10/22/2009

Number: 1

Today it was 70 degrees and a slight breeze was blowing. We saw blue skies with cirrus and cumulus clouds. We saw several different kinds of birds, but we don’t know what species. (We are just learning to identify them.) We saw a vulture. We heard several kinds of birds too. One bird we heard was a woodpecker. We saw evidence that a bird or a squirrel ate dogwood berries on a tree stump. We saw mushrooms and peach colored fungus decomposing the wood. We saw several insects: moth, cricket, ant, yellow jacket, and flies. We also saw a daddy long legs and a roly-poly. Tree colors were mostly green, but we also saw orange, yellow, brown, and red leaves. The American beauty berry had purple berries. There were a few leaves on our nature trail and we could hear them crunch under our feet.
