Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/24/2009

Number: 1

Watched monarchs Sat and Sun Oct 24-25 streaming across Lake Cherokee. Everywhere you looked there were butterflies. My observation time: I was watching for 6 hours.

I feel pretty comfortable they were
Monarchs.Weekend of Oct 24-25 -- those fellas were streaming southwest -- fighting a wind from the north/northwest...about 10-20 ft above the surface of the lake. I marveled at their ability to make headway against the cross-wind. And you could look in any direction and see a monarch. We fished for about 3 hours each day and during that period -- a steady stream. Was pretty awesome sight...
