Release of 57 tagged farm monarchs today at Desert Botanical Garden. Amazingly, found ten 4th and 5th instar monarch caterpillars on A. currasivica in the Herb Garden: nine on one plant, one on another. Saw two wild monarchs, one flying west on a mission, the other nectaring on a Sweet Almond Bush, Aloysia virgata.
From home, over the last 2 days released 3 freshly eclosed monarchs (2 males, 1 female) from chrysalises from Signal Butte A. subulata patch. The fourth one, a male, will be released tomorrow. One large wild untagged monarch continues to visit my backyard in the late afternoon.
