Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/21/2009

Number: 1

October 26
The monarchs and 2 other species appear to be in full migration here along the northern edge of the Gulf of Mexico. I am staying at Ft. Pickens campground located on the barrier reef island called Santa Rosa. The campground is near the pass for ships to enter Pensacola Bay. This island was devasted by a hurricane in September of 2005 and I have not been here to make observations since that time as the park has been closed. For the last two weeks I have observed the butterflies increase in number dailly and estimate the height of migration to have been about six days ago around October 21, 2009. The butterflies are found mostly on bushes with white blooms that I don't know the name. Will send photos, if possible. My observation time: I was watching for 3_ hours and _30__ minutes.
