Tulips PLANTED

Date: 10/27/2009

Number: 1

Dr. Lopez's fifth grade students planted 25 Red Emperor tulip bulbs on Tuesday, October 27, 2009. We decided to plant our bulbs in a crescent moon shape. The fall weather has been rainy and cool so the garden soil was muddy, so we had to wait a while to plant our tulips. The ground was hard to dig because it was clay which clung to our shoes when we were finished. We found roots, red chalk rock, and grubs in the dirt which weren't good for our plants. The mud was like quicksand which made us sink into the clay. We added fertilizer to the soil. We covered the bulbs with store-bought soil. Then we put the muddy clay on top of our garden. It took us over an hour to dig the garden, plant our bulbs, and cover them up with soil.
