Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 11/07/2009

Number: 1

We observed two new rufous hummingbirds at the backyard sugar-water feeders today. November is very late for us to be seeing migratory rufouses in this area. There were a dozen or more of them here in August and September, but all of them left by early-to-mid October.

The two that arrived today appear to be in good condition and are not acting as "desperate" and aggressive as the migratory birds usually do when they first arrive.

So far I have taken only a couple of [close-up] photos of each, and am not able to positively ID age and gender — yet. I think one is an adult female and the other an immature male.
