Signs of Fall

Date: 11/14/2009

Number: 1

Waves of robins arrived on Saturday for their winter harvest of toyon and pyrocanthus berries. The air is full of robin calls and fluttering wings. This time they were accompanied by a group of flickers and some warblers (maybe Wilson's warblers). They are a little early--usually they come in around Thanksgiving. It only takes a few days for the flock to strip the red berries off their favorite bushes and then they move on to someone else's yard or the toyon in the hills around us.
