To my surprise on November 13th, I observed two monarch butterflies and three large monarch caterpillars on tropical milkweed in the butterfly garden at nearby Jeffers' Bend Environmental Center. The low that morning was in the low thirties and daytime temperatures were in the low 70's. I had no idea monarchs would still be in our area this late in the year.
