Habitat

Date: 11/21/2009

Number: 1

Over the past few years I established an edge ecosystem garden habitat for Monarchs and other butterflies. First I hauled buckets of compost from the local community site, added top soil and cow manure and mixed it well. I then planted cone flowers, rudebekia, sedum, phlox, yarrow, shasta daisies, swamp milkweed, butterfly weed, butterfly bush, verbena, rough blazing star, meadow blazing star, and bee balm. I added peonies, holly hocks, tulips, and other annual flowers for variety. Every year I have a large sum of Monarchs emerge from my patch. Many other butterflies nectar there. I obtained many pictures and pleasurable moments. I appreciated the opportunity to established a way station in my yard. I have helped others to start habitats.
