Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/04/2005

Number: 1

On this date and the next date were the peak number of migrating monarchs seen, tagged and released in my yard, Monarch Waystation #271. I was not watching constantly, puttering around the house and glancing out the window with net ready at the door. Oct 4: tagged and released 6 monarchs between 12:50 pm and 4:20 pm. October 5: tagged and released 7 monarchs between 1:47 pm and 5:35 pm. I swung and missed 1 monarch on each of these days. There were 1 or 2 clusters of 2 or 3 monarchs in these time periods. All of them flew south over the house once released except for 2 that flew to the nearest tree. My observation time: I was watching for about 4 hours on October 4 and about 4 hours on October 5.
