Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 12/01/2009

Number: 1

Hi! I have a pair of Ruby-Throated Hummers that have taken up residence close by. They necture only on my CORAL PORTERWEED BUSHES. They now feed at my "moat feeder", as it keeps the ants out. Coral Porterweed, while not a Fl native, is not "invasive". It does not send out "root babies" as does the blue/violet porterweed. I have both on my yard, but the hummers only feed on the Coral. The pair have ben "visiting" for about 3 years, and I believe they have decided to stay. I hope so; they are so beautiful and wondrous!!!!!

The butterflies love the porterweed too, especially the Long-Tailed skippers, Gulf Frittalries, Monarchs, and Swallowtails!
