Practice Report (Any Species)

Date: 12/20/2009

Number: 1

At 7:30 am this morning we went outside to see the sunrise and observed a huge flock of birds as far as the eye could see strung out from east to west traveling over our home in a south/ southwest direction After this we observed additional flocks for another 20 minutes traveling in exactly the same direction. They were close enough to us that we could see their red wings in the morning sun and hear their chirping noises. They flapped several times and then glided a few seconds. We are from Iowa and are familiar with the red winged crow. Were these the same birds migrating south? It was very exciting to observe tens of thousands of birds flying with such purpose and direction.
