Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 01/13/2010

Number: 1

Male and female monarchs are over-wintering at the Rio Salado Restoration Habitat near Central Ave and the Salt River in downtown Phoenix. On warm days they can be seen nectaring on Seep Willow and Sweetbush (Bebbia juncea) near the site. In November and early December the monarchs were West of Central along the river roosting in Willow and Cottonwood trees. With the freeze in December they moved to the same over-wintering site used the last three years near the waterfall.
