All Other Signs of Spring

While our "test garden" tulips are still underground and yet to be seen, three bulbs in a small micro-climate garden we planted right up against the school building have emerged. They are about one inch tall. I'm wondering if the sun is cooking up the brick building and making the spot a bit warmer than the air temperature. It's been cold here, but then we had a few days in the 40s. Could that have done it? We will be adding mulch to protect them.
