Tulips EMERGED

Date: 01/25/2010

Number: 1

Over 145 third graders from St. Andrew's School of Math and Science in Charleston, SC (USA)have been waiting patiently for our tulips to emerge. We planted 150 bulbs on January 8, 2010 and we were surprised when 20 tulips bulbs emerged out of the soil on Monday, January 25, 2010. That's only 17 days from planting the bulbs!

We had predicted that maybe the bulbs would take a bit longer than 17 days to emerge. The temperatures for the 17 days have remained cold for our region with an average of 50-60 degrees. We know that it may not be cold for some other places in the world, but it's cold for us in South Carolina by the coast. We did get alot of rain each week in the 17 days. Maybe the rain had something to do with the bulbs coming out so quickly. We also think that the temperature change had something to do with the quick growth. We are patiently waiting to see if the other 130 bulbs will emerge later.
