Mrs. Sauer-Jones' fifth grade students planted their tulip bulbs on Friday, November 20, 2009. We planted them in pots instead of outside because the soil was too muddy. We placed them in an outdoor closet to prevent them from freezing and to chill the bulbs. So instead of them being seven inches underground, the tops of the bulbs are showing above the soil. We observed small shoots, about 3-4 cm tall, coming out of the bulbs on January 19, 2010. Our science teacher, Mrs. Buscher, watered the soil because it was very dry. We hope our tulips will bloom in early spring. We will answer any comments. :-)
