Robin (WAVE seen)

Date: 01/29/2010

Number: 1

My 7th grade class observed a flock of at least 12 birds outside our classroom window this morning about 8:15 in the morning. The birds were quite puffed up due to the extremely cold temperatures in our area today. The high temp expected today is 24 degree F, with the wind chill it is around 5-10 degrees.
One of my students told me that he had seen robins in his yard several times this winter. I am not sure how reliable this observation is from a 7th grader. His comment was that he did not think the birds ever left this winter. The secretaries in our school also observed the flock this morning. The birds were quite active probably looking for worms in the leaf litter as the ground is frozen again today after a thaw with temperatures at the beginning of the week nearing 60 degrees F. One of the secretaries commented that she had seen a few robins 2 weeks ago in her yard a mile or so from the school.
