All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 01/20/2010

Number: 1

On January 20, 2010 we went to our gardens to compare the air and soil temperatures, and discovered that last year's tulips had emereged and this year's crocus were just beginning to sprout. We predict that in a few weeks time our current planting of tulips will also emerge. The air temperature was 50.4F and soil temperature was 46.6F. We noted that usually the air temperature at this time of year, is cooler than the soil temperature. We felt we were in a warm current of air and the plants were being fooled thinking it was closer to spring, one third grader said.
