All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 02/03/2010

Number: 1

It took us a while to get our tulip bed up and going. The weather here has not cooperated. We have had an unusual amount of rain. One of our parents built a raised box for us and a local landscaper donated soil and mulch. We are on a Zone border. If we plant bulbs too early, it is likely that they will sprout too soon and be frozen by low temperatures in March and April. Up until today, the bulbs have been refrigerated to keep them dormant. The tulip bed is located in front of the school as requested by our principal so that parents and visitors can see the project. I have plans to put up a sign identifying it as a science project. We will make our first observation in about a week.
