Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 02/04/2010

Number: 1

Our class saw overwintering monarchs until we had a very hard freeze the first week of January when the temperature was in the twenties for several days. It was the coldest it had been in fourteen years. Almost all of the milkweed froze. When I was cutting down the stalks, I found one caterpillar and one chrysalis. I left them but haven't seen the caterpillar since. Some of the milkweed close to the building was still green. We're hoping the milkweed comes back as it usually does.
