I wish there were overwintering Monarchs like last year but bad things happened in the Summer's heat, which hit 108. At that temperature, the delicate caterpillars become tiny, semi-glossy strips with all the features but flattened, dry, and unfortunately, dead. I lost hundreds of first, second, and third instar caterpillars that would have insured a large breeding stock that would have very likely stayed active through October or even November, as was the case last year.
So, there's that. As far as, Am I ready? goes, I've got two well established varieties of Milkweed at the ready.
