Two afternoons in a row I spotted a hummingbird sitting on a small palm tree next to the school. It was difficult to see whether it was an Allen's hummingbird or a rufous without getting closer. On the second day I came closer and noticed the rufous coloring and some slight green on the back. The beak was not as long as an Allen's hummingbird. Before I could take its picture it flew west towards a group of very tall palms a block away. Suddenly a group of three other hummingbirds came from the palms and flew around the other bird. They raced past each other going this way and that. They eventually flew off together well beyond my sight.
