Total: 17,784 (12/19-21)

With the stormy weather continuing, the monarchs are clustering more densely. Clusters are moving further into the grove in Halcyon, Los Osos and Morro Bay. In Morro Bay and Pismo clusters are moving onto the evergreen trees (cypress and pines). It appears that clusters are moving higher into the trees in Morro Bay, Los Osos, Oceano and Pike Street, some nearly 40-60 feet high. This week at the Pismo site I spent extra time to ensure that I accurately accounted for the density of the clusters to record a more accurate estimate. Last week's estimate from Pismo was most likely low because the clusters became denser than they have been all season, great care will be taken from here forward to account for the denser clusters.
