The first set of counts was taken just after the storms and the butterflies were extremely scattered. Pismo (1/23) monarchs were found on the ground in the sanctuary by the creek and behind the creek path (west of the grove) as well as loners found all over. Pismo (1/30) more than half of the monarchs were across the highway by the train tracks to the east of the grove and matings were at an all time high. Oceano (1/27) & (1/31) clusters have moved south onto the pine trees and out of this year's trees. Pike street is down to several tiny clusters and fliers. Halcyon seems to be the most stable in regards to population size and I still find them in the same main tree they've been using for a few months. The cemetery has small clusters. Los Osos has several small clusters and loners where clusters have been previously found. Morro Bay seems to have been the most effected by the storms. After finding only approximately 500 monarchs (1/28) I was able to find another 100 fliers (not included) at the bottom of the hill in a separate stand of eucalyptus, it seems that they were scattered all over. This week (2/1) there were less loners and were back in the usual euc stand. This storm dramatically affected all sites and these numbers are a clear indication of t
