the first flies of the season are sitting on the porch railing this morning, soaking up some sun and the sap is really running at the medicine tree along the road. I emptied 7 buckets almost full of sap this morning and the driveway is already muddy and it's not yet noon. The big fall dump of snow last weekend is melting quickly - the snow is very grainy and icy and full of water. red squirrels and black squirrels playing chase in the woods today. there should be enough sap to start boiling tonight - yippee!! the horse logger is coming out to cut down some of our dead elm and ash trees for firewood this week. the weatherman says sun and cloud for the rest of the week- welcome to the high pressure front that moved in!
