Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/04/2010

Number: 1

I was out in my garden to day photographing the plants that are flowering and I saw my first monarch adult at 4:00 central time. Flowers that are blooming in the area are lavender, ganzia, apple, peach, plum and pear trees as well as bougainvillea and roses.
The temperature was 28 degrees C.
The weather has been dry for the last week. Temperatures are ranging from 3 degrees in the morning to 24 to 28 in the afternoon in Tequisquipan.

Overall, the winter was milder than previous years. We only had temperatures below zero twice this winter. We had a lot of rain in January and February which is quite unusual. I have not seen winter rain like this in the 11 years I have lived here. However, as soon as the rain stopped, the afternoon temperatures started to get quite warm every day. Right now, the vegetation appears quite dry in general.

The milkweed plants are not new plants. They are 2 year old plants that have survived the winter.

March 5
Today at 10 am, I observed two monarchs flying north through Tequisquiapan. The temperature at ground level was 11 degrees C.
