Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 03/07/2010

Number: 1

Saw 5 Monarch butterflies flying around the edge of a field.

I do have a butterfly garden and
currently (3/14)have 30 Monarch caterpillars munching away at Milkweed
plants. The Milkweed grows nearly year round here and I had to go out
and buy 2 new plants yesterday to support all the hungry caterpillars.
Every Winter/Spring I usually get a large grouping of Monarchs laying
their eggs, one year it was in December, this year it was March. In
the Winter/Spring many of my nectar plants are not blooming but I
always have Ageratum blooming in the winter and the Monarchs LOVE
that. I also have a few Cosmos popping up. I couldn't tell you
specifically how many Monarchs I have seen this Winter but maybe 10
not including the 5 I reported on.
