Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 03/09/2010

Number: 1

Things are beginning to look up! We have found two native milkweeds up with at least three inch stems along the county roadsides to the south and southwest of Port Lavaca in Calhoun County, A. oenotheroides (Hierba de Zizotes) and A. viridis (Spider or Green Antelopehorn). We have A. curasavica (tropical milkweed) in the backyard with leaves along eight inch stems and leaves about two inches. The temp finally is getting into the 80's and has been sunny. Now we await the Monarchs! Got the report of another Monarch to the SSW of us in the Lower Rio Grande Valley today so they must be just beginning to come up out of Mexio.
