Maple Syrup (FIRST Sap Run)

Date: 03/01/2010

Number: 1

Are you ready to hear about the best maple syrup of our time? On March 1, we tapped a maple tree in front of our school. The sap was flowing like the wind. It was a warm, sunny, late winter day. The temperature was in the 40's. The snow on the ground was like white, cake frosting gleaming in the sun. We collected sap for three days. We needed 40 cups of sap to make 1 cup of syrup. We put three taps in the tree that were 8 inches apart. During the boiling process the clear, sugary sap turned into golden, brown syrup. We had a sweet, syrup treat!
