Red-winged Blackbird (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/12/2010

Number: 1

what a great way to greet the morning and the first day of march break!!! I always look out my east-facing upstairs bedroom window as I get out of bed- and today, at 6:45 am there was a red-winged blackbird sitting in the mountain ash tree snacking at the bird feeder!!! there's a low pressure system that arrived last evening and rain is on the way following 10 days of sun and sap! the temp this a.m. is +4C and the sky is overcast. there is almost no snow left in the bush. the ice on the ponds is black and 'rotting'- and there was a small group of 5 canada geese flying around the neighbourhood. I anticipate hearing many more red-wings today down by the pond. yippee!!!
