Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/12/2010

Number: 1

I saw my first monarch of the season fly by just outside
our backyard, SSW to NNE at 4:30 this afternoon @ 3 feet,
NW wind @16 mph, 73 dF, clr. Altus and I had had our
usual spring round with getting her mower started for the
first time and I had settled down to watching warblers play
along the fenceline and along came this gentle, but determined
flight that we all know. Too far away to determine sex or
condition. There haven't been any overwintering monarchs around this part of the state since Jan 9th so a good chance it came up from Mexico. Need to capture one and examine to convince myself or at least see one up close ... but pretty sure!
