Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/12/2010

Number: 1

Observed at 6:00pm CST or 1800 hours military time at 5401 Burnham Drive, Corpus Christi, TX. It was nectaring on fragrant blooming Mescal Bean (also called Texas Mountain Laurel) across the street from my apartment at the Summerhouse Apartment Homes on Burnham Drive. I am in #2313. I watched him/her nectar for about a minute and then he/she flew up high and across Burnham Drive and came to our apartments and I noticed it was looking for a place to roost in a big tree for the night. I did not get close enough to it to see if it was a male or female. I also did not have my binoculars with me. Today's weather was 73F, clear and sunny with light breezy winds from the North. We had a cool front pass through last night on the night of March 11, 2010. This is the first Monarch I have observed this Spring of 2010 and at zip code 78413. The Monarch I believe roosted in a big Anachua Tree which has its leaves on it.
