Ice-Out

Date: 03/14/2010

Number: 1

The ice jam broke on the Sheboygan River at the railroad bridge near 14th Street (Kiwanis Park had been flooded, then chunks of ice were left high and dry ) and ice flow roared like a freight train down river, past the Weather Center on the wharf/boardwalk, and out to the mouth of the harbor. The ice was blocked by high Northeast winds from flowing into Lake Michigan. Huge trees and barrels and massive iced chunks backed up in whirlpools, piled up, and broke the fish tugs from their moorings. Ice was stacked up from the river bed to the surface of the river. Within 2 days, wind changed and the Sheboygan harbor is completely clear of ice.
