Our tulips have begun to emerge. The class agrees that this seems unusually early, as much as one month earlier than we expected. Indeed, according to NOAA’s State of the Climate National Overview for February 2010 Maine has experienced the third warmest winter season in the last 116 years. The most recent nor’easters brought heavy winds and rain along the coast, but no snow. There has been hardly any sledding outside during recess this year and only one snow day. Other signs of spring also seem to be coming early, such as the return of robins and other bird life.
