All Other Signs of Spring

I first heard the characteristic calls. Then noticed a group of about 30 cranes flying in their typical V pattern in a direction just east of due North. This was at about 2:00 pm CDT. The group paused for a few minutes, began to spiral around as if disoriented, and then headed along again in a general north direction. They were extremely high as I had to use binoculars to get a good look. Their coloring was a light tan (off-white) with darker (almost black wing tips), so I am pretty sure they were Whooping Cranes and not Sandhills.
