Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 03/22/2010

Number: 1

Not our first of the year but our first multiples in an hour! Altus and I were working in the backyard this afternoon getting our big Asclepias curassavica bed redone after everything froze in January and between three and four we watched four (4) monarchs make their way past us straight through the yard. They came in over the chain link fence from the south and exited going NNE like they were on a highway ... from three to eight feet ... faded. With the low numbers this spring, we really weren't expecting this.
