"Al Godfrey, of Winthrop, has been tracking ice-out dates on Maranacook since the 1960s, and has records kept by others dating to 1925."
"Godfrey said the March 21 ice-out is the earliest on record. It went out on March 25 in 1981 and 1982. It has gone out in March only five times in the 85 years of record-keeping."
