We just had our first monarch of the year at SA Botanical [Gardens], on 23 March.

Last year's (2009's) first was on January 1, with regular sightings all winter through; with a warm winter many of our monarch larval host plants had wintered over and we had regular fliers. This year we have few larval hosts leafed out yet and no sightings since November.
