I have seen faded Monarchs in and around Austin for the last week (21-26). One on Tuesday 3/23 was on the Mexican Plum in Way Station 917, my house. Year after year I see Monarchs nectaring on Mexican Plum. Not surprisingly as it is a small tree that glows white amongst the bare branches of surrounding trees and shrubs. It must look like a huge neon sign ... Eat Here.... for a flying Monarch. As an aside, Red Bud usually flowers about the same time, but I see few pollinators on the Red Bud, but the Plum is a magnet to many species.
