All Other Signs of Spring

Sorry I didn't send this in right away. The weekend of the 20th was very mild...temperatures were as high as 12C. (53F.) Although there was still a foot and a half of snow on the ground, you could hear the sound of rushing water everywhere under the snow. Where there are gullies and creases on the hillsides, the warm meltwater collects and creates seasonal rivulets, which wash away the snow above them much faster as the water rushes down the slopes. These little rivers exist only in the spring, and when we walk in the woods, it's fun to find these rivers that exist only in the spring. The sound is so loud that sometimes it drowns out the sounds of birds and even passing cars.

We cut branches off flowering dogwood bushes to bring into the house and put in water. In a week, the flowers bloomed.

It's an exciting time of year in the country!
