Two or more loons heard calling Monday night in the area just south of St. Croix Boomsite. Stillwater and Bayport known to be regular "last stopover" staging points for migrating loons awaiting ice out on northern MN lakes. River crested last weekend and local lift bridge has re-opened. Last St. Croix southern pool ice disappeared same night. Area appears to be about a week ahead of 2008. Expect peregrine falcons to lay eggs within next week.
